Indian Railways Inaugurates Punjab's First-Ever 'Restaurant On Wheels' At Pathankot Cantt Station

While Indian Railways is setting up rail coach restaurants at various stations across the country, the newest one has been inaugurated at Pathankot Cantt railway station. First of its kind in Punjab. The new restaurant, designed on the idea of serving food on wheels, was developed using old railway coaches that have been refurbished to give a premium ambience similar to mainstream restaurants. This is another initiative of Ferozepur Division of Indian Railways. First Sri Mata Vaishnodevi was established at Katra Railway Station.

According to an official, passengers can enjoy food at the station itself at affordable rates. The restaurant will be available 24 hours a day for rail passengers and general public and will offer them a unique experience. It is found that the restaurant is fully air-conditioned.
Indian Railways had earlier inaugurated such a restaurant in Rourkela city of western Odisha. While passengers there might get a chance to dine at the restaurant on the railway coach, the restaurant (an initiative of a Kolkata-based company) opened its doors to the public ahead of this Durga Puja.
A restaurant is functioning near the second gate on the north side of the busy railway station. However, the second gate was chosen as the first gate or main entrance.
Besides, there are many other such restaurants across the country including Nagpur Railway Station, a CSMT in Mumbai and Asansol. These restaurants have come into being using old coaches and aim to generate strong revenue for their respective zones.
