Bhubaneswar: AIIMS Bhubaneswar has proudly announced that it has successfully completed 100 robotic-assisted surgeries in just four and a half months since the program's inception.

The robotic surgery system was inaugurated virtually by Union Health Minister J P Nadda on February 23.

To celebrate this significant achievement, a special event was held at the institute on Friday.

This accomplishment positions AIIMS Bhubaneswar as the first government-funded medical facility in Odisha to establish a fully operational, multi-disciplinary robotic surgical program, providing advanced surgical options to economically disadvantaged and middle-income patients at reasonable prices.

New Delhi: WhatsApp, owned by Meta, has been granted an extension to respond to the government's concerns regarding its proposed 'username' feature. The platform has assured officials that it will not implement this feature in India until discussions are finalized.

The messaging service has received an additional three days to reply to a government notice regarding this controversial feature, which allows users to communicate without disclosing their phone numbers.

Last week, the government issued a notice to Meta, expressing concerns that the username feature could lead to increased online fraud, phishing, and impersonation attacks.

The government has instructed WhatsApp to halt the feature's rollout until consultations are satisfactorily completed.

Sources indicate that WhatsApp has been given until the end of the week to submit its response to the IT Ministry, extending the original deadline.

WhatsApp has also committed to not launching the feature until discussions are concluded.

A Meta team met with IT Ministry officials last Friday following the notice.

The notice requested Meta to clarify why actions should not be taken under the IT Act regarding the potential for increased cybercrime due to the new feature.

The government reminded Meta that, as a major social media intermediary, WhatsApp must adhere to due diligence requirements under the IT Act.

An email inquiry sent to WhatsApp did not receive an immediate response.

A spokesperson for WhatsApp stated that the username feature is not yet active and will be gradually introduced later this year.

"To prevent impersonation, we have reserved usernames for high-profile individuals, including public figures and verified accounts, ensuring they can only be claimed by their rightful owners," the spokesperson explained.

Users will still need a phone number to access WhatsApp, and the company has implemented several protective measures against scams related to usernames.

"Other users must know the exact username to initiate contact. We will restrict how many new users an account can reach out to and block repeated attempts to guess usernames, along with systems to identify and eliminate impersonation and abuse patterns," WhatsApp stated.

The platform will indicate whether a first-time sender is a new account, a contact, a mutual group member, or from another country before users decide to respond.

"When the feature is available, if someone messages you for the first time using your username, we will inform you if they are a new account, a contact, share group memberships, or are located in a different country, allowing you to choose whether to reply," WhatsApp added.

Neil Shah, Co-founder and VP of Research at Counterpoint Research, noted that Apple’s price adjustments for the MacBook Neo, MacBook Air, MacBook Pro, iPad Air, and iPad Pro Wi-Fi reflect a major shift in the cost structure of the consumer and enterprise PC and tablet markets, driven by escalating semiconductor chip prices.

In a statement, Apple acknowledged the unprecedented challenges facing the consumer electronics sector. They highlighted that the rapid growth of AI data centers has led to an extraordinary demand for memory and storage components, resulting in significant price increases.

"We have shielded our customers from these increases so far, but we have now reached a point where we need to begin raising prices on a number of products, including today’s increases for iPad and Mac. New Delhi: The popular messaging platform Telegram resumed service for certain users on Tuesday morning, yet it remains unavailable on both Google and Apple app stores.

A government-imposed ban on Telegram is set to last until June 22, with no indications of any changes or extensions to this timeline.

Attempts to reach Google and Apple via email for clarification did not yield immediate responses.

The ban was enacted due to Telegram's inability to curb the spread of counterfeit NEET exam papers, along with the distribution of misleading information and other fraudulent activities that disrupted the examination process.

Prior to the ban, officials from the government had discussions with Telegram representatives on June 3 to address these issues.

Following these discussions, the Centre opted to block the app and its related web links, including the web version, until June 22.

Additionally, Telegram has been instructed to disable its message editing feature until June 30.

Jharsuguda: On Saturday, G Kishan Reddy, the Union Minister for Coal and Mines, announced that the initiation of the coal gasification project signifies a pivotal advancement in transforming India's rich coal reserves into valuable products. Additionally, MCL will supply the coal needed for the project, including 0.79 million tonnes per year of washed coal and 1.19 million tonnes of rejects from its Ib Valley washery.

Officials noted that this project aligns with the National Coal Gasification Mission and is expected to serve as a benchmark for future coal-to-chemicals initiatives across India.

New Delhi: The Indian Air Force (IAF) announced on Wednesday that the first domestically produced C-295 military transport aircraft has successfully completed its inaugural flight.

The IAF is set to acquire a total of 56 C-295 aircraft, with an investment of approximately Rs 21,935 crore.

Out of these, Tata Advanced Systems Limited will assemble 40 units in collaboration with Airbus at a manufacturing site located in Vadodara.
