Bhubaneswar: AIIMS Bhubaneswar has proudly announced that it has successfully completed 100 robotic-assisted surgeries in just four and a half months since the program's inception.

The robotic surgery system was inaugurated virtually by Union Health Minister J P Nadda on February 23.

To celebrate this significant achievement, a special event was held at the institute on Friday.

This accomplishment positions AIIMS Bhubaneswar as the first government-funded medical facility in Odisha to establish a fully operational, multi-disciplinary robotic surgical program, providing advanced surgical options to economically disadvantaged and middle-income patients at reasonable prices.

The robotic surgeries were conducted across five key departments, including General Surgery, Surgical Gastroenterology, Urology, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, as well as specialized operations like robotic bariatric surgery and intricate pediatric surgeries.

The government reminded Meta that, as a major social media intermediary, WhatsApp must adhere to due diligence requirements under the IT Act.

An email inquiry sent to WhatsApp did not receive an immediate response.

A spokesperson for WhatsApp stated that the username feature is not yet active and will be gradually introduced later this year.

"To prevent impersonation, we have reserved usernames for high-profile individuals, including public figures and verified accounts, ensuring they can only be claimed by their rightful owners," the spokesperson explained.

Users will still need a phone number to access WhatsApp, and the company has implemented several protective measures against scams related to usernames.

"Other users must know the exact username to initiate contact. We will restrict how many new users an account can reach out to and block repeated attempts to guess usernames, along with systems to identify and eliminate impersonation and abuse patterns," WhatsApp stated.

The platform will indicate whether a first-time sender is a new account, a contact, a mutual group member, or from another country before users decide to respond.

"When the feature is available, if someone messages you for the first time using your username, we will inform you if they are a new account, a contact, share group memberships, or are located in a different country, allowing you to choose whether to reply," WhatsApp added.

New Delhi: The popular messaging platform Telegram resumed service for certain users on Tuesday morning, yet it remains unavailable on both Google and Apple app stores.

A government-imposed ban on Telegram is set to last until June 22, with no indications of any changes or extensions to this timeline.

Attempts to reach Google and Apple via email for clarification did not yield immediate responses.

The ban was enacted due to Telegram's inability to curb the spread of counterfeit NEET exam papers, along with the distribution of misleading information and other fraudulent activities that disrupted the examination process.

Additionally, MCL will supply the coal needed for the project, including 0.79 million tonnes per year of washed coal and 1.19 million tonnes of rejects from its Ib Valley washery.

Officials noted that this project aligns with the National Coal Gasification Mission and is expected to serve as a benchmark for future coal-to-chemicals initiatives across India.

New Delhi: As heatwave conditions escalate in various regions, medical professionals are cautioning that extended exposure to high temperatures can negatively impact both physical health and neurological functions, particularly in children, the elderly, and individuals with existing health issues.

Experts in health emphasize that rising temperatures, dehydration, and prolonged sun exposure can disrupt the body's internal equilibrium, leading to fatigue, dizziness, severe headaches, migraines, heat exhaustion, and even neurological issues in susceptible populations.

Hospitals in the Delhi-NCR area are reporting an uptick in patients suffering from heat-related conditions, including eye irritation, headaches from dehydration, and neurological symptoms triggered by heat, according to doctors.

"The current heatwave is starting to show effects beyond typical heat-related illnesses, with a significant rise in neurological complaints in our outpatient department," stated Dr. Vinit Suri, Senior Consultant in Neurology at Indraprastha Apollo Hospital, Delhi.

"We've observed nearly a 20% increase in outpatient visits recently, with more individuals presenting symptoms like severe headaches, dizziness, disorientation, fainting spells, exacerbation of existing neurological conditions, and particularly migraine flare-ups," he added.

Dr. Suri noted that heat exposure and bright sunlight can trigger migraines in certain individuals. Extreme heat and dehydration can also disrupt blood flow to the brain, alter electrolyte levels, and place considerable stress on the nervous system, especially in vulnerable individuals.

Symptoms such as ongoing confusion, slurred speech, excessive drowsiness, seizures, or loss of consciousness should not be overlooked, as they may signal a serious neurological emergency requiring immediate medical intervention.

Dr. Sushma Sharma, Director of Neurology at Marengo Asia Hospitals, mentioned that individuals with migraines, epilepsy, and other neurological disorders may experience aggravated symptoms during extreme heat and sleepless nights caused by high temperatures and power outages.

"Summer heat can impact eye health in various ways. Extended exposure to intense sunlight, hot winds, dust, and dehydration can lead to dryness, irritation, redness, and eye strain.

"Many individuals also report burning sensations, itching, or watery eyes during this season. We frequently see cases of dry eye syndrome, allergic conjunctivitis, and corneal sunburns. Children and those spending extended periods outdoors should exercise extra caution," Dr. Sanduja advised.

Dr. Namrata Sharma, a professor at the Dr. R P Centre for Ophthalmic Sciences in Delhi, noted that continuous air-conditioning use and increased screen time indoors are also contributing to eye-related issues during summer.

"Dry indoor air from air-conditioning, combined with prolonged mobile and laptop usage, reduces natural tear production and exacerbates eye dryness. Early symptoms like redness, blurry vision, and irritation are often ignored, which can lead to more serious conditions if untreated," she cautioned.

"We are witnessing more cases of allergies, dry eye, and infections due to the rapid evaporation of the tear film," she added.

She recommended wearing UV-protected sunglasses outdoors, rinsing eyes with clean water after exposure to dust, avoiding rubbing eyes with unclean hands, using lubricating eye drops, and maintaining proper hydration throughout the day.

New Delhi: Recent research from the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) reveals that the Moon's surface is not merely a flat expanse of dust but features a unique two-layered structure resembling a cake. The top layer is just a few centimeters thick, according to the findings released on Tuesday.

This layered composition indicates that the lunar surface has been subjected to relentless impacts from tiny meteoroids since the crust solidified.

It utilizes hydrological modeling, deep learning, and multilingual AI to produce high-quality watershed reports in a matter of minutes, typically between three to eight.

The platform aims to assist researchers, policymakers, students, government bodies, and the general public by providing easy access to dependable climate and water data, especially in remote areas where scientific information is scarce.

WatershedAI is capable of generating detailed assessments that include watershed morphology, drainage systems, soil properties, land use patterns, climate trends, drought history, extreme weather occurrences, and forecasts for future water availability.
