Mizoram Declared India's First Fully Literate State

On Tuesday, Chief Minister Lalduhoma announced that Mizoram has officially become India's first fully literate state. This declaration was made during an event in Aizawl, attended by Union Minister of State for Education Jayant Chaudhary.

According to the 2011 Census, Mizoram had a literacy rate of 91.3%, ranking it as the third most literate state in India.

To further enhance literacy, the New India Literacy Programme was launched, aimed at educating those who were still illiterate, as stated by the Union education ministry.

Recent reports indicate that Mizoram's literacy rate has now surpassed 95%, which the Union education ministry recognizes as full literacy.

During the announcement, Lalduhoma described this achievement as a "historic moment" in Mizoram's development journey. He emphasized that this milestone reflects the collective determination, discipline, and vision of the state's residents.

The Chief Minister also highlighted the importance of maintaining this high literacy level through ongoing education, digital access, and vocational training.

"We should now set our sights on achieving higher goals: digital literacy, financial literacy, and entrepreneurial skills for all Mizos," he concluded.
