The Origin of Quordle

Quordle was created by Freddie Meyer in 2022, inspired by both Wordle and Dordle. The game was later acquired by Merriam-Webster in January 2023.

Initially, engineer David Mah developed the prototype for Quordle, which was subsequently refined by Freddie Meyer. Drawing from Dordle, where players solve two grids at once, Quordle was launched in February 2022 and quickly gained popularity, attracting over a million players within weeks.

Merriam-Webster purchased Quordle in January 2023 for an undisclosed amount, with the company’s president noting that it was a favorite among staff and a valuable addition to their game offerings.
