Exciting Matchup Announced for T20 World Cup
Mumbai: The highly anticipated 2026 Men's T20 World Cup has placed traditional rivals India and Pakistan in Group A, with their match scheduled for February 15 at Colombo's R Premadasa Stadium, as revealed in Mumbai on Tuesday.
According to an agreement between the BCCI and PCB, Pakistan will conduct all its matches in Sri Lanka.
Defending champions India will kick off their tournament against the USA in Mumbai on February 7, followed by a match against Namibia in Delhi on February 12. They will then travel to Sri Lanka for the crucial encounter with Pakistan before wrapping up their group stage against the Netherlands in Ahmedabad on February 18.
The tournament will span from February 7 to March 8, taking place across eight venues, including five in India and three in Sri Lanka.
A total of 55 matches will be played in cities such as Delhi, Kolkata, Ahmedabad, Chennai, Mumbai, Colombo, and Kandy.
The schedule was officially announced by ICC chairman Jay Sharma.
In Group B, teams include Australia, Sri Lanka, Ireland, Zimbabwe, and Oman, while Group C features England, West Indies, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Italy. Group D consists of New Zealand, South Africa, Afghanistan, Canada, and UAE.
Rohit Sharma Takes on Ambassador Role
Rohit Sharma, who led India to victory in the previous T20 World Cup in 2024, has been appointed as the tournament ambassador.
In T20 internationals, Rohit has been a standout performer, amassing 4,231 runs with an average of 32.01 and a strike rate of 140.89.
He announced his retirement from T20 cricket following India's triumph in the Americas last year, which marked the end of an 11-year wait for an ICC trophy for the Indian team.
