Rohit Sharma Reflects on Women's Team Triumph

Rohit Sharma, the former captain of the Indian men's cricket team, shared his thoughts on the women's team's remarkable achievement of winning their first World Cup earlier this month. The Indian women's squad, under the leadership of Harmanpreet Kaur, secured their inaugural title by defeating South Africa by 52 runs in the final.

Insights on Team's Journey and Coach's Composure

During the announcement event for the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 schedule, Rohit reminisced about his conversation with captain Harmanpreet Kaur regarding coach Amol Muzumdar. He expressed that he was not surprised to learn that Amol maintained his composure and enthusiasm despite the team's three consecutive losses in the group stage, including a setback against England. Rohit noted the team's disappointment at that time but felt immense joy witnessing their comeback to clinch the title.

"Observing from the outside is different from being in the thick of it. I understand the emotional toll they have faced over the years with repeated setbacks. The joy on their faces when they finally won was priceless. I had asked Harman about Amol's demeanor during the tournament, knowing him well as he was my first captain in Mumbai. I was not surprised by her response; Amol's passion for the game and the team is evident," Rohit stated.

"Even though I wasn't present, I could sense the atmosphere in the dressing room after the England match. Seeing them lift the World Cup was an incredible experience," he added.

Harmanpreet Kaur: The Victory Still Resonates

Harmanpreet Kaur expressed that even a month after their World Cup victory, the thrill has not diminished. She mentioned that people continuously remind her of their achievement, prompting her to reflect on the long wait and the frustrations the team faced over the years.

"It's been a month since we won the World Cup, but every time I try to relax, people remind me of the victory and their excitement. We waited for so many years and faced so much frustration. Winning now means everything to us. I want to hold onto that moment; it keeps replaying in my mind. It's truly special," Harmanpreet shared after their historic win.
