Young Indian Engineer Jahnavi Dangeti Selected for 2029 Space Mission

Jahnavi Dangeti, a 23-year-old from Andhra Pradesh, is set to embark on an orbital flight with Titans Space as an Astronaut Candidate (ASCAN). A graduate in Electronics and Communication Engineering, she is among three individuals chosen for this five-hour mission. Jahnavi expressed her excitement and gratitude for this opportunity on Instagram, highlighting the honor of being part of such a groundbreaking experience.
Scheduled for 2029, this inaugural flight by Titans Space will include three hours of zero gravity. Jahnavi emphasized that the mission will offer a unique environment for scientific research and the advancement of human space exploration.
During the journey, participants will orbit the Earth twice, witnessing two sunrises and two sunsets. The mission will be led by William McArthur Jr., a veteran NASA astronaut and retired Colonel of the US Army, who currently serves as the Chief Astronaut for Titans Space.
Jahnavi has a strong background in STEM advocacy and space research. She has undergone training in zero gravity, high-altitude missions, space suit operations, and planetary simulations. Notably, she was the first Indian selected for NASA’s International Air and Space Program. For her, flying under the guidance of such an esteemed leader is a significant honor.
Following her selection, Jahnavi shared her plans for the upcoming training, stating, 'Over the next three years starting in 2026, I will begin astronaut training through Titans Space’s ASCAN program.' This training will encompass spacecraft systems, flight simulations, and medical evaluations.
Expressing her pride in representing her Indian heritage, Jahnavi remarked, 'I am proud to represent my roots and the amazing young dreamers I have met along the way—this mission is for all of us who look up and wonder what is impossible.'
