Protests Erupt After Attack on Sarpanch Arjun Meena in Rajasthan

Attack on Sarpanch Sparks Outrage
In a shocking incident, Arjun Meena, the sarpanch of Akodia village in the Shivdaspura police jurisdiction, was assaulted with a sharp weapon by a group of individuals on Wednesday. Following the attack, he was rushed to Mahatma Gandhi Hospital for medical treatment, where he is currently receiving care. According to his brother, Lalaram, Arjun was attempting to prevent illegal encroachment on community land in the nearby village of Bhaderwas when he was attacked by Bhajan Lal Gurjar, Sitaram Gurjar, Babulal Gurjar, and Lalchand Gurjar.
In response to this violent act, sarpanchs from Kotkhawada and Chaksu tehsils staged a vigorous protest outside the Shivdaspura police station. They condemned the attack and demanded the swift arrest of the perpetrators. During the demonstration, Jagdish Meena, the president of the sarpanch association, accused the police station chief of using disrespectful language towards elected representatives and physically ejecting them from the station, labeling it an affront to democracy.
The protesting sarpanchs have outlined their key demands, which include the immediate registration of a case regarding the attack on Arjun Meena and the prompt arrest of those involved, as well as the suspension of the police station officer. They warned that they would not back down until their demands were met. The protest saw significant participation from local leaders, including Kotkhawada head Prahlad Meena, Chaksu representative Badri Narayan Chaudhary, Padmapura sarpanch Arjun Lal Meena, and Shivdaspura sarpanch Uday Narayan Meena, among others.
Former MLA Ved Prakash Solanki also joined the protest, strongly condemning the attack on the elected representatives and calling for the immediate apprehension of the culprits.
Discontent Over MLA Ramavatar Bairwa's Absence
Protesters expressed their frustration over the absence of current MLA Ramavatar Bairwa, despite being informed about the incident and the demonstration in a timely manner. This led to significant discontent among the sarpanchs and other representatives present at the protest. They made it clear that if prompt action is not taken, they would escalate their movement from the police station level to the district level. Hundreds of people gathered at the protest site, and a case has been registered at the Shivdaspura police station, with authorities now conducting an investigation.
