Venkatesh Prasad Elected President of KSCA Unopposed
Venkatesh Prasad's Unopposed Election
The Karnataka High Court mandated that elections for the president's position occur on December 7, with December 26 set as the deadline for nomination withdrawals. However, prior to the elections, Venkatesh Prasad has been declared the president, as per an official announcement.
Election Process and Nomination Scrutiny
Following the High Court's directive, the election process commenced, with cricketers Venkatesh Prasad and Shantakumar from the opposing faction of Brijesh Patel submitting their nominations. During the nomination review on November 24, Shantakumar's nomination was invalidated. Consequently, Venkatesh Prasad was elected unopposed as the KSCA president due to the lack of competition.
Judicial Oversight
A bench of the High Court, led by Justice Suraj Govindaraj, was addressing a petition from KSCA's B.K. Ravi, which contested a letter from the Returning Officer that sought to delay the elections until December 30. The court ruled that the KSCA elections must proceed on December 7, adhering to existing bye-laws in line with a Supreme Court ruling.
Venkatesh Prasad's Return to KSCA
Venkatesh Prasad is making a comeback to the KSCA after a 12-year hiatus, having previously held the vice-presidential role from 2010 to 2013, during Anil Kumble's presidency and with Javagal Srinath as secretary. Now, as the newly elected president, Prasad, a former star bowler for the Indian cricket team, is set to lead the KSCA. An official announcement regarding his election is anticipated on November 26.
