Managing Jasprit Bumrah's Workload Ahead of England Test Series

Concerns Surrounding Jasprit Bumrah
As India prepares for a five-match Test series against England, Jasprit Bumrah has been a focal point of discussion. With key players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma absent from the squad, Bumrah stands out as one of the senior members. However, chief selector Ajit Agarkar has indicated that Bumrah may not participate in all five matches. The management is particularly cautious about his workload following a back injury sustained during the series against Australia.
Insights from Ashish Kaushik
Ashish Kaushik, the former head physiotherapist at the National Cricket Academy, has shared valuable insights with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the team management. He emphasized the importance of adequately strengthening bowlers to handle the demands of the game. Kaushik stated, "It is essential for bowlers to engage in conditioning programs that allow them to perform consistently across multiple spells."
He further explained, "Every player has an acute to chronic workload ratio that must be maintained to minimize injury risks. Deviating from this workload can lead to potential injuries."
Kaushik added, "Bowling workload should be balanced with training, which includes all strenuous activities such as batting, fielding, and strength training. It is crucial to avoid sudden spikes or drops in workload to ensure optimal performance."
