Swapneswar Mahadev Temple Gains Protected Status: A Triumph for Odisha's Heritage

Historic Recognition for Swapneswar Mahadev Temple
In a significant development, the Swapneswar Mahadev temple, located in Punjiama village within the Niladriprasad panchayat of Banapur block, has been officially recognized as a protected monument by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI). Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan expressed his appreciation towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan for their pivotal roles in safeguarding Odisha’s cultural heritage.
Constructed in the 6th century during the Sailodbhava dynasty, this temple is a treasure trove of ancient architecture and historical value. The initial steps towards its protection were taken in 1977-78 when the then Culture Minister Biswabhusan Harichandan assigned the task to the state Archaeology department.
Unfortunately, the temple fell into disrepair over the years. However, with Prime Minister Modi's recognition of its historical significance, measures were initiated for the ASI to oversee its preservation. The establishment of the BJP government in Odisha in 2024 further propelled the efforts of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, culminating in the ASI's official declaration of the site as a protected monument.
Law Minister Harichandan remarked that this recognition by the ASI is a proud moment for all Odias, symbolizing the preservation of their identity and legacy.
