Exciting Matches at the Indonesia Open

Jakarta: The top men's doubles team from India, Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, made a remarkable entry into the quarterfinals of the Indonesia Open Super 1000 on Thursday, showcasing resilience in their comeback victory. Meanwhile, PV Sindhu's journey ended in the second round after a closely contested match.

The 2023 champions, Satwik and Chirag, displayed remarkable composure during a thrilling 68-minute match against Denmark's Rasmus Kjaer and Frederik Sogaard. The Indian duo, ranked 22nd in the world, triumphed over their 16th-ranked opponents with scores of 16-21, 21-18, 22-20, in a match that saw numerous lead changes before they clinched victory.

The match began with the Danish pair taking an early lead, dominating the net and outpacing the Indians in the first game. Despite a valiant effort to recover from a 6-10 deficit to level at 10-all, Satwik and Chirag could not prevent Kjaer and Sogaard from winning the first game.

In the second game, the Indian pair responded with heightened aggression and strategic placements, forcing their opponents into mistakes. After a tie at 14-all, they surged ahead with five consecutive points, ultimately pushing the match into a deciding game.

The final game was intense, with Satwik and Chirag initially racing to a 5-1 lead, only to see it evaporate as the Danes fought back to tie at 8-all. The match reached a nail-biting climax, with Denmark holding a match point at 20-19. However, Chirag's courageous return leveled the score, and a crucial serve from Satwik, followed by a well-placed shot, secured a thrilling victory, igniting celebrations from the Indian team.

Next, they will compete against Malaysian seventh seeds Man Wei Chong and Kai Wun Tee for a spot in the semifinals.

Earlier, PV Sindhu's campaign concluded with a narrow defeat against Thailand's world No. 8, Pornpawee Chochuwong, in a grueling 78-minute match, with scores of 22-20, 10-21, 18-21.

Sindhu, a two-time Olympic medalist, made a strong comeback to win the first game after trailing 10-16. However, Chochuwong responded with a dominant second game, and despite Sindhu leading 15-11 in the final game, the Thai player's consistency and Sindhu's unforced errors led to her exit.
