Boxing Federation of India Announces AGM Date for New Executive Committee Elections
Upcoming Annual General Meeting for Boxing Federation of India
The long-awaited Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Boxing Federation of India (BFI) is set to take place on August 21, 2025. The interim committee, which has been overseeing the sport, has confirmed the date for this important event where a new executive committee will be elected.
According to a notice issued by Ajay Singh, the chairman of the interim committee, the AGM will commence at 11:00 AM in the Delhi-NCR region. Member states and Union Territory associations are urged to submit the names of their two representatives to the BFI's office email by 5 PM on August 4, 2025, in accordance with the BFI’s constitution approved by World Boxing.
The agenda for the AGM includes three key items: confirming the minutes from the previous meeting, electing officials for the 2025-2029 term, and addressing any additional matters with the chair's consent.
The previous tenure of BFI office-bearers, led by Singh, concluded on February 2, with elections initially scheduled for March 28. However, internal conflicts resulted in legal challenges that delayed the process.
Singh, during his presidency, removed former sports minister Anurag Thakur from the electoral roll, citing his non-election status within Himachal Pradesh's boxing unit. This action sparked a protracted legal dispute, leading to a stay order that halted the elections.
Subsequently, the BFI suspended secretary general Hemanta Kalita and treasurer Digvijay Singh due to financial misconduct. In response, World Boxing appointed the Interim Committee to oversee the sport and mandated that elections be held within 90 days, with a deadline set for August 31.
