Sikkim Cricketer Palzor Tamang Signs Contract with English Club
Palzor Tamang's New Journey in England
Gangtok (Sikkim) [India], April 16 (News Media): In a significant achievement for Sikkim cricket, all-rounder Palzor Tamang has secured a six-month contract with Felling Cricket Club in England.
The Sikkim Cricket Association (SICA) announced this milestone, making Tamang only the second player from the state to land an overseas club contract, following Nilesh Lamichaney.
Having already arrived in England, Tamang is set to compete in various tournaments, including the esteemed ECB-affiliated North East Premier League, which is part of the England and Wales Cricket Board's (ECB) Premier League framework, as stated in the SICA press release.
A skilled seam bowler and reliable lower-order batsman, Tamang made his first-class debut during the 2018-19 Indian domestic season. In January 2020, he made history as the first homegrown cricketer from Sikkim to achieve a five-wicket haul in first-class cricket. He later became the first player from the state to reach the 50-wicket milestone in this format.
His batting talent was evident in the 2023-24 season when he scored his first-ever first-class century against Arunachal Pradesh, highlighting his capabilities as a genuine all-rounder. Additionally, Tamang captained the Sikkim Senior Men’s Team during the same season, demonstrating leadership and resilience.
Beyond his cricketing endeavors, Tamang also serves as an Inspector in the Sikkim Police, reflecting his dedication both on and off the field.
SICA expressed its pride in Tamang's accomplishment, emphasizing that this overseas experience will greatly enhance his skills and signify the rising prominence of cricket in Sikkim. He is anticipated to return in September to rejoin the Sikkim team for the upcoming Indian domestic season.
