Significant Phone Call Between PM Modi and President Trump

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently engaged in a phone conversation with U.S. President Donald Trump, where he clarified that the agreement to halt hostilities with Pakistan during 'Operation Sindoor' was not a result of mediation or trade agreements. This discussion took place shortly after the conclusion of the G7 summit in Canada.

Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri reported that Trump inquired if Modi could visit the U.S. on his return from Canada, but the Prime Minister cited prior commitments as a reason for his inability to travel. Modi extended an invitation to Trump to visit India for the upcoming Quad summit.

Key Highlights from the Modi-Trump Call

1. During the call, PM Modi provided a detailed account of Operation Sindoor, emphasizing that since April 22, India has made it clear to the world that it will take decisive action against terrorism.

2. Modi explained that on the night of May 6-7, India conducted targeted strikes solely against terrorist bases in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, stressing that the operation was precise, limited, and non-escalatory. India also made it clear that any aggression from Pakistan would be met with a strong response.

3. Modi reiterated the statement, 'A bullet is answered with a bullet.'

4. On May 9, U.S. Vice President Pence warned Modi about a potential large-scale attack from Pakistan. In response, Modi firmly stated that if such an attack occurred, India would retaliate even more forcefully.

5. Accordingly, India launched a significant counterattack on the night of May 9-10, inflicting considerable damage on the Pakistani military and neutralizing their airbases. This strong response led Pakistan to request India to cease military actions.

6. Modi made it clear to Trump that at no point during the discussions was there any consideration of trade talks or U.S. mediation. The discussions regarding halting military actions were conducted directly between the two nations' armed forces at Pakistan's request.

7. The Prime Minister emphasized that India has never accepted mediation, does not accept it, and will never accept it, highlighting a consensus among Indian political parties on this issue.

8. Trump acknowledged the points raised by Modi and expressed support for India's fight against terrorism. Modi informed Trump that India no longer views terrorism as a proxy war, and Operation Sindoor is ongoing.

9. Trump asked Modi if he could visit the U.S. after returning from Canada, but Modi cited prior commitments. Both leaders agreed to try to meet in the near future and discussed the escalating Iran-Israel conflict and the importance of direct dialogue in resolving the Russia-Ukraine war.
