Health Update on Abhijit Gangopadhyay
Abhijit Gangopadhyay, a Member of Parliament from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and a former judge of the Calcutta High Court, has been admitted to the ICU of a private hospital in Kolkata due to complaints of discomfort. Medical professionals have reported that his condition is serious but stable. The 63-year-old was hospitalized on Saturday after experiencing vomiting and abdominal pain. A statement released by the hospital on Sunday confirmed that he has been diagnosed with acute pancreatitis and gastrointestinal sepsis.
The statement further noted, "He is currently under strict observation in the ICU and is being monitored continuously." A multidisciplinary medical board has been established to manage his treatment and provide coordinated care. Gangopadhyay, who resigned from his position as a judge in March of last year, joined the BJP shortly thereafter and was elected to the Lok Sabha from the Tamluk constituency in West Bengal for the upcoming 2024 general elections.
