BJP's Sudhanshu Trivedi Discusses Census and Social Survey Initiatives

Census Decision Under PM Modi's Leadership
BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi announced that under Prime Minister Modi's guidance, the Cabinet has decided to conduct a census. The press release clearly stated that, for the first time in independent India's history, a social and economic survey alongside a caste census will be carried out. He emphasized that the aim is to recognize all castes, honor them, and uplift those at the bottom of the social hierarchy. In contrast, he criticized the opposition, claiming that the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) and Congress are only focused on their own family's advancement.
Fundamental Differences in Perspectives
Trivedi pointed out the fundamental differences between their vision and that of the opposition. He reiterated their commitment to the identification, respect, and upliftment of all castes. He clarified that the notification for the caste census is issued by the central government, and states cannot conduct their own caste census. Therefore, the notifications being shown by the opposition can only pertain to surveys. He accused Congress of creating significant challenges to national development wherever they hold power.
Congress's Oversight on Key Issues
The BJP leader remarked that despite recent portrayals in satellite films, Congress has failed to notice the destruction of Pakistani airbases. He noted that they overlooked the term 'persecution' in the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) notification. This selective blindness, he argued, is why Congress continues to miss critical issues. He reiterated that under PM Modi's leadership, the Cabinet has decided to conduct India's census, which will include a social and economic assessment, marking the first caste census in independent India.
Historical Context of Caste Census
Trivedi highlighted that the party which halted the caste census in 1951 and failed to implement Kaka Kalelkar's report for the rights of backward classes is now attempting to speak on the matter. He criticized their inability to comprehend the written facts, revealing the essence of their political stance. He reiterated that the notification for the caste census is a central government responsibility, and states can only conduct surveys, which follow a different notification procedure.
