Alambagh Encounter: Suspect in Rape of Toddler Killed by Police

In a tragic incident in the Alambagh area of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, a man accused of raping a two-and-a-half-year-old girl was killed in a police encounter early Friday morning. The suspect, identified as Deepak Verma, had a reward of ₹1 lakh on his head.
According to Ashish Srivastava, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Zone), Verma was shot dead during a confrontation with law enforcement after being accused of the heinous crime that occurred on the night of Wednesday to Thursday.
The girl's parents reported the incident to the Alambagh police station on Thursday, stating that their daughter had been assaulted. They reside near the Chandan Nagar metro station.
Following the complaint, the police registered a case and formed five teams to investigate the matter. A reward was also announced for information leading to the arrest of the suspect.
Surveillance footage from the metro station revealed that around 3 AM on the night of the incident, a young man arrived on a white scooter, abducted the child, and took her behind the lift at the metro station to commit the crime.
Further analysis of the footage helped identify the scooter's registration number, leading to the identification of the suspect as 26-year-old Deepak Verma, a resident of the Aishbagh area.
Late Thursday night, police received intelligence that Verma was attempting to flee. When officers arrived to apprehend him, he opened fire on them. In the ensuing exchange, Verma was critically injured and later succumbed to his injuries at Lok Bandhu Hospital.
The Deputy Commissioner also noted that Verma had a prior criminal record and was involved in selling water at the railway station and setting up displays during religious events.
Meanwhile, the condition of the young victim remains serious as she receives treatment at King George Medical University.
