Nissan is gearing up to introduce a new Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) and a Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) in the Indian market shortly. According to a recent discussion with a prominent automotive publication, the Managing Director of Nissan announced that pre-production for both the B-MPV and C-SUV has commenced at the Renault facility located in Chennai. He emphasized that the pre-production phase for all their models is progressing smoothly.

The MPV, which is based on the Renault Triber, is expected to debut in the first quarter of next year. Meanwhile, the SUV variant, derived from the Renault Duster, is anticipated to be launched by mid-next year.

Investment in Existing Models

In addition to the new launches, Nissan plans to continue investing in the Magnite's product lifecycle, which is crucial as this compact SUV is exported to over 65 countries. Reports also suggest that Nissan may introduce several new Completely Built Units (CBUs) in the near future. The company has decided to phase out diesel variants and will focus on CNG and hybrid engine options instead.

Challenges and Future Plans

Due to declining sales and brand perception, Nissan has lost several dealerships across India. The company's future strategy is now evident: they will develop new MPVs and SUVs using existing Renault platforms, which will be marketed under the Nissan brand.

Recent reports indicate that the upcoming Nissan SUV will be exclusively petrol-powered. At launch, it will feature a single drivetrain option: a 1.3-liter turbo-petrol engine that produces 154 horsepower and 250 Nm of peak torque, paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.

In addition to the SUV, Nissan is also set to unveil a new MPV by December 2026. This vehicle will be based on the Renault Triber, which has successfully offered a comprehensive package with three rows of seating at an attractive price point.
