Joint Operation Disrupts Arms Trafficking in Punjab

In a significant operation, the rural police of Amritsar, Punjab, in collaboration with various central agencies, has successfully dismantled a gang involved in the smuggling of advanced weapons across the border. This information was disclosed by the Punjab police chief on Sunday.

Authorities revealed that this gang had connections with operatives from Pakistan's intelligence agency, the ISI (Inter-Services Intelligence). Police Director General Gaurav Yadav confirmed that five individuals were apprehended during this operation.

The police seized a cache of weapons from the suspects, including an AK-47 assault rifle, two magazines, two 9mm Glock pistols with four magazines, 90 cartridges for the AK rifle, 10 cartridges for the pistol, ₹7.5 lakh in cash, a vehicle, and three mobile phones.

Yadav mentioned in a post on the social media platform 'X' that preliminary investigations indicated the suspects' ties to ISI operatives in Pakistan. This shipment of arms was reportedly intended for gangster Jaggu Bhagwanpuria's known associate, Nav Pandori, suggesting a concerning link between terrorism and gang activities.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Jobanjit Singh alias Joban and Gora Singh from Ranggarh village, Shenshan alias Shalu from Rasulpur Kallar in Amritsar, Sunny Singh, and Jaspreet Singh alias Motu from a village in Rupnagar.
