India is a bustling hub of travel, with millions of passengers taking flights daily. Although flying saves considerable time compared to train travel, airport procedures can still be time-consuming and cumbersome. To streamline these processes, several airports in India are now offering the DigiYatra facility, which aims to simplify and expedite the travel experience.
What is DigiYatra?
DigiYatra is a digital platform launched in 2022 by Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia. This app is designed to make airport travel more efficient by leveraging technology to minimize the time spent on check-ins and security procedures. Instead of presenting physical documents such as ID proofs, vaccine certificates, and boarding passes, passengers can use facial recognition technology to complete these processes seamlessly.
How DigiYatra Benefits Passengers
- Faster Processing: DigiYatra significantly reduces the time spent in queues at the airport by automating check-in and security processes.
- Convenience: Passengers no longer need to carry multiple documents. The app uses facial recognition to authenticate identity and verify boarding details.
- Enhanced Security: The use of biometric technology improves security and reduces human error during the verification process.

Current Availability and Expansion Plans
DigiYatra was initially launched at Bengaluru and Varanasi airports in December 2022. Since then, it has expanded to several other airports across the country. Currently, the service is available at 15 airports.
Upcoming Rollouts
The Civil Aviation Minister, Ram Mohan Naidu, recently announced plans to implement DigiYatra at 12 additional airports soon. This expansion aims to make the facility more accessible to travelers nationwide. As of now, over 4.3 million users have downloaded the DigiYatra app, with significant growth in recent months.
How to Use DigiYatra
- Download the App: DigiYatra is available for both Android and iOS devices. Android users can download it from the Google Play Store, while iPhone users can find it on the Apple App Store.
- Setup: After installing the app, passengers need to register their details and upload necessary documents.
- At the Airport: Use the app’s facial recognition feature to pass through check-ins and security checks quickly.
