Heartbreaking Plea: Widow of Pahalgam Terror Attack Victim Seeks Martyr Status for Her Husband

A Widow's Grief and Demand for Justice
Kanpur: Following the tragic terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, which resulted in the deaths of 26 individuals, including her husband Shubham Dwivedi, Ashanya expressed her frustration over the lack of action against the attackers. This incident occurred ten days ago, primarily targeting tourists in the Baisaran region.
In an interview, Ashanya emphasized that her request is not for financial assistance or employment but for her husband to be recognized as a martyr. "Shubham has not been honored as a martyr, and the government has yet to take down those responsible for this atrocity," she stated.
"I don’t seek a job or money—just the martyr status for my Shubham. This pain will remain with me forever," she added, revealing her struggles with anxiety and fear since the incident.
Ashanya now spends her days in a single room, often staring at a portrait of Shubham and the shirt he wore during the attack. "Even the sound of a tire bursting or any loud noise terrifies me," she recounted, highlighting the lasting trauma she endures.
During a recent visit, Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, met with Ashanya at her home in Maharajpur. She shared her plea with him, and he assured her that he would advocate for Shubham's martyr status to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
"Rahul ji has promised to bring this issue to Parliament as well," she mentioned.
Ashanya also called on the government to take decisive and immediate measures against the terrorists responsible for the attack. When asked if she would ever return to Kashmir, she firmly replied, "Never. Not even once."
