Suryavanshi's Stellar Innings

Northampton [UK], July 3: In a remarkable display of talent, 14-year-old Indian cricket prodigy Vaibhav Suryavanshi nearly matched Rishabh Pant's record by scoring a rapid half-century off just 20 balls during the third ODI between India U19 and England U19.

Suryavanshi's impressive innings saw him accumulate 86 runs from only 31 balls, featuring six fours and an astonishing nine sixes, achieving a strike rate exceeding 277. This performance also set a new record for the most sixes hit by an Indian U19 player in a single innings.

The record for the fastest half-century in U19 ODI cricket for India is held by Pant, who achieved it in 18 balls against Nepal in 2016. Suryavanshi now holds the second-fastest fifty for India at this level.

Globally, the fastest U19 fifty is credited to South Africa's Steve Stolk, who scored it in just 13 balls against Scotland last January.

In the match, India U19 chose to bowl first, with England U19 setting a target of 268/6 in 40 overs, bolstered by solid contributions from Thomas Rew (76* off 44 balls, including nine fours and three sixes) and BJ Dawkins (62 off 61 balls, with eight fours and a six). Kanishk Chouhan was the standout bowler for India, taking 3 wickets for 30 runs.

During India's chase, Suryavanshi partnered with Vihaan Malhotra, who scored 46 runs off 34 balls, to build a 73-run partnership for the second wicket. A late surge from Kanishk, who scored an unbeaten 43 off 42 balls, helped secure the victory with four wickets remaining and 33 balls to spare.

With this win, India leads the five-match series 2-1. Suryavanshi has emerged as India's leading run-scorer, amassing 179 runs in three matches at an average of 59.66 and a strike rate exceeding 213.

Previously, Suryavanshi made headlines during the 2025 season while playing for RR, where he scored 252 runs in seven matches, including a century and a fifty. His explosive century against the Gujarat Titans in Jaipur, where he scored 101 runs off just 38 balls, made him the youngest centurion in men's T20 cricket. This remarkable feat, achieved in just 35 balls, now ranks as the second-fastest century in IPL history, a stunning accomplishment for a player of only 14 years.
