Rahul Dravid Celebrates Rohit Sharma's Stand Naming at Wankhede Stadium

A Special Tribute to Rohit Sharma
Former Indian cricket coach Rahul Dravid extended his congratulations to Rohit Sharma following the Mumbai Cricket Association's decision to name a stand at Wankhede Stadium in his honor. Dravid humorously remarked that he now knows whom to contact for match tickets at this iconic venue.
The stand was officially inaugurated on Friday, with Rohit being honored in the presence of his family, teammates from the Mumbai Indians, and various dignitaries.
Dravid's Heartfelt Message
In a video shared by the Mumbai Indians on their social media platform, Dravid expressed:
“Hey Rohit, it seems you’ve hit so many sixes into those stands that they had to dedicate one to you! Congratulations! As a young boy entering the legendary Wankhede Stadium, you must have dreamed of playing there and creating unforgettable moments, which you have certainly achieved.”
He continued, “I doubt you ever envisioned having a stand named after you, but this recognition is a fitting tribute to your significant contributions to both Mumbai and Indian cricket.”
Rohit's Journey with Dravid
Rohit Sharma's international career commenced under Dravid's guidance, debuting in an ODI against Ireland on June 23, 2007. Years later, Dravid took on the role of head coach while Rohit served as captain. Together, they led India to the finals of the 2023 ODI World Cup and clinched the 2024 T20 World Cup. Earlier in 2024, they also managed to secure a rare drawn Test series in South Africa.
A Joyful Conclusion
Dravid concluded with a cheerful note, saying, “This honor is truly well deserved – congratulations! I hope you had a fantastic day with your loved ones. I look forward to seeing many more sixes soar into the Rohit Sharma Stand in future matches. And now that you have a stand named after you, I know exactly whom to call when I need tickets in Mumbai!”
