Karnataka Leaders Back Rahul Gandhi's Economic Remarks Amid Tech Summit Preparations
Support for Economic Commentary
On Friday, Karnataka's Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar expressed their agreement with Congress leader Rahul Gandhi's statement, which echoed U.S. President Donald Trump's assertion that the Indian economy is 'dead.' They also called for attracting foreign investors ahead of the state's upcoming technology summit.
The comments were made during a diplomatic outreach event for the 'Bengaluru Tech Summit,' scheduled for November 18-20, where the leaders promoted Karnataka as a prime investment destination to diplomats and high commissioners.
When asked about the apparent contradiction between Gandhi's stance and the investment narrative for Karnataka, Siddaramaiah stated, 'What Rahul Gandhi has said reflects my own views. The Indian economy is indeed a dead economy.' However, he quickly clarified the distinction between the national and state economies.
In a conversation with the media, the Chief Minister remarked, 'Karnataka's economy is separate from the Indian economy. We are looking forward to investments in technology.' Shivakumar echoed this sentiment, asserting, 'This is not just Rahul Gandhi's statement; it is also the statement of the U.S. President. Our leader has reiterated what Trump has said.'
