On June 1, during the second ODI of the three-match series against West Indies, Joe Root made history by becoming England's all-time leading run-scorer in One Day Internationals (ODIs). While chasing a target of 309 runs, Root reached this remarkable milestone, adding to his impressive career since debuting in ODIs in 2013, including being part of the victorious 2019 World Cup team.


Root Surpasses Eoin Morgan

In the match, Root scored a half-century, bringing his total ODI runs to 6,993* from 179 matches, thus surpassing former captain Eoin Morgan. Morgan, who retired with 6,957 runs in 225 ODIs, held the record for a significant period. His career included 13 centuries and 42 half-centuries, while Root's tally now stands at 17 centuries and 42 half-centuries.
