Ashwin Surpasses Bhuvneshwar Kumar in IPL Wicket Tally
Chandigarh (Punjab) [India], April 9: In a remarkable achievement, veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin of Chennai Super Kings (CSK) has overtaken Royal Challengers Bengaluru's (RCB) Bhuvneshwar Kumar to claim the title of the third-highest wicket-taker in Indian Premier League (IPL) history.
During the match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Tuesday night, the 38-year-old spinner took two wickets in four overs, conceding 48 runs with an economy rate of 12. This performance allowed Ashwin to surpass Bhuvneshwar, solidifying his position among the top wicket-takers in the lucrative league.
To date, Ashwin has accumulated 185 wickets across 217 matches, maintaining an average of 29.92 and an economy of 7.18, with his best bowling figures recorded at 4/34.
In contrast, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, known as the 'Prince of Swing,' has claimed 184 wickets in 179 matches, averaging 27.28 with an economy of 7.57. His best performance stands at 5/19.
Leading the pack ahead of Ashwin are Yuzvendra Chahal from Punjab Kings, who has 206 wickets in 164 matches at an average of 22.83, and Piyush Chawla, who has taken 192 wickets in 192 matches with an average of 26.60.
In the same IPL 2025 match, opener Priyansh Arya scored his first IPL century, helping PBKS set a target of 219 runs. CSK fell short, losing the match by 18 runs. Arya's outstanding performance earned him the 'Player of the Match' title. Currently, PBKS ranks fourth with three wins and one loss, while CSK sits at ninth with one win and four losses.
