Mullanpur (Punjab) [India], April 14: The Punjab Kings are set to challenge the reigning champions, Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), this Tuesday. PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer will be up against the team he previously led to their third Indian Premier League (IPL) title last season.
Currently positioned sixth, PBKS has recorded three victories and two defeats, including a significant loss while defending a total of 246 runs against SRH in Hyderabad. In contrast, KKR sits in fifth place with three wins from six matches, having recently triumphed over Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
Iyer boasts an impressive track record against his former team, the Delhi Capitals (DC), amassing 456 runs in 14 innings at an average of 41.45 and a strike rate exceeding 150. He has achieved two half-centuries, with his highest score being an unbeaten 93.
Against KKR's leading spinners, Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, Iyer has also performed well, scoring 42 runs off 35 balls and 38 runs off 22 balls, respectively, although both spinners have dismissed him once.
This season, Iyer ranks as the fourth-highest run-scorer and is the leading run-scorer for his team, accumulating 250 runs in five innings at an impressive average of 83.33 and a strike rate of 208.33, including three half-centuries. His best performance this season is 97*.
