Delhi Capitals Captain Penalized for Over-Rate Violation
Axar Patel, the captain of Delhi Capitals (DC), has been penalized with a fine of Rs 12 lakh due to his team's slow over-rate during their recent match against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the Indian Premier League (IPL). In this encounter, MI posted a total of 205 runs for 5 wickets in their 20 overs, while DC was bowled out for 193 runs in just 19 overs.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced, “Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel has been fined following his team's slow over-rate during Match No. 29 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Mumbai Indians at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. This fine of INR 12 lakh is imposed as it marks the first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which addresses minimum over-rate violations.”
This match marked DC's initial loss in the tournament. Despite leading the team, Axar has faced challenges, remaining wicketless across five matches and accumulating only 67 runs with the bat.
