Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy: A New Era in India-England Test Cricket

A Historic Tribute in Cricket

London [UK], June 10: Former England fast bowler James Anderson expressed his immense pride in having the Test series between India and England named after him and the iconic Sachin Tendulkar. This recognition marks a significant milestone in the storied rivalry between the two cricketing nations.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) have officially designated the series as the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, honoring the contributions of both cricket legends.

Previously, the Test series in England was referred to as the Pataudi Trophy, named in memory of former Indian captain Mansur Ali Khan Pataudi. In India, it was known as the Anthony de Mello Trophy, commemorating one of the founding members of the BCCI.

The trophy will be unveiled by Tendulkar and Anderson at Lord's during the World Test Championship (WTC) final, which kicks off on June 11. This announcement comes just before the new WTC cycle, with a five-match Test series set to commence on June 20 at Headingley in Leeds.

During a DP World event at Lord's, Anderson shared his thoughts with ESPNcricinfo, stating, 'It’s a huge honor. I still can’t quite believe it. Sachin is someone I looked up to when I was growing up. I remember watching him, an absolute legend of the game, and I played against him a lot as well. So to have this trophy is a huge honor for me, and I couldn’t be more proud.'

Anderson, who recently concluded his career with 188 Test matches, is celebrated as England's finest fast bowler. Tendulkar, revered as one of the greatest batsmen in cricket history, played 200 Tests before retiring in 2013.

The upcoming India tour of England is scheduled from June to August 2025, featuring matches at Headingley (Leeds), Edgbaston (Birmingham), Lord's (London), Old Trafford (Manchester), and The Oval (London).

This series will be India's first bilateral engagement following the recent retirements of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from Test cricket.

England's squad for the first Test includes: Ben Stokes (C), Shoaib Bashir, Jacob Bethell, Harry Brook, Brydon Carse, Sam Cook, Zak Crawley, Ben Duckett, Jamie Overton, Ollie Pope, Joe Root, Jamie Smith, Josh Tongue, and Chris Woakes.
