Successful Rescue of Tiger from Ranchi Village: Next Steps Planned

Tiger Rescued in Mardu Village
A tiger was successfully captured from a residence in Mardu Village, located in the Silli block of Ranchi district, near the border of Jharkhand and West Bengal, about 70 kilometers from the district's main hub. The rescue operation was carried out by a collaborative team from the Palamu Tiger Reserve and the local forest department, and fortunately, no injuries to humans were reported despite the operation taking place in a densely populated area.
Plans for the Tiger's Future
The tiger, which had been sighted in the Palamu Tiger Reserve several months prior, is set to be transported to the Ormanjhi zoo for a medical evaluation. Following this checkup, officials are likely to release it back into the Palamu Tiger Reserve. Paritosh Upadhyay, the Principal Chief Conservator of Forests and Wildlife, stated that preparations began immediately after the tiger's presence was confirmed. Teams from both the local zoo and the Palamu Tiger Reserve were mobilized to ensure a safe capture. He mentioned, 'Since we received the information, we were strategizing on how to capture it. We coordinated with the teams from the local zoo and the Palamu Tiger Reserve... After the medical assessment, we will release it back into the Palamu Tiger Reserve.'

Srikant Verma, the Divisional Forest Officer for Ranchi, described the operation as quite difficult. He noted, 'It was challenging to extract the tiger without any bait. Ensuring the tiger's safety was paramount. The teamwork displayed during this operation was commendable. We will perform an initial checkup before releasing it back into the wild, starting with a visit to the zoo.'
Witness Account of the Incident
Purandhar Mahato, the homeowner, shared his frightening experience during the incident. He recounted how he and his family quickly moved their livestock to safety when the tiger entered their property. 'I shouted to my daughter to hurry and bring the goats and cows, including the calf, to safety. As we were moving the goats, the tiger came in, causing chaos among the animals. It was around 4:30 p.m., and the light was dimming. My daughter yelled, 'Papa, the tiger is here!' The tiger started roaring, and I quickly ushered my children into another room, locking the door behind us.'
He expressed his fear that the tiger might break in, which it eventually did, entering the room where they were hiding. 'I had already told my daughter that if the tiger got in, she and her sibling should escape through the window, which they did. I was left alone with the tiger in the room for nearly an hour,' he recounted. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported during this incident.
