Jasprit Bumrah Reflects on Memorable Moments Amidst England Test
Bumrah's Remarkable Performance at Lord's
During a press conference following the second day's play in the third Test against England at Lord's, Indian pace bowler Jasprit Bumrah brought humor to the room when a reporter's phone rang, leading him to quip, "Somebody's wife is calling. But I will not pick it up."
Under the intense London sun, Bumrah led India's bowling attack, achieving impressive figures of 5/74. His crucial wickets included those of Harry Brook, Joe Root, and captain Ben Stokes, which helped restrict England to a total of 387 runs.
After the day's play, Bumrah took time to reflect on his career, particularly recalling his experiences from India's previous tour of England in 2021. He reminisced about a significant match at Lord's where he initially struggled but later contributed to a vital partnership with Mohammed Shami, scoring 34 runs and helping set a challenging target.
In that match, Bumrah's bowling prowess shone through as he claimed three wickets, leading to a 151-run victory for India. He expressed that while records are noteworthy, the memories created during matches hold greater significance for him.
"The most memorable test match for me was in England last time. When Shami Bhai and I won the match with batting, so obviously, I will remember those memories," Bumrah stated. He also mentioned the pride of having his name on the Lord's honours board, which he looks forward to sharing with his son in the future.
After taking a break during the second Test for workload management, Bumrah returned to the field and silenced critics with his first five-wicket haul at Lord's. He acknowledged the scrutiny that comes with being a professional athlete, stating, "As long as I wear this jersey, there will be judgments because every cricketer goes through that."
Bumrah concluded by emphasizing that performance evaluations are an inherent part of sports, and he remains focused on contributing to his team's success.
