Operation Sindoor: A Strategic Military Response
New Delhi: Following the execution of Operation Sindoor, a coordinated military initiative targeting nine significant terrorist locations in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), the Indian government has organized an all-party meeting scheduled for Thursday at 11 a.m. This meeting aims to update the nation's political leaders regarding the strategic military actions taken.
Union Minister Kiren Rijiju announced the meeting on Wednesday via X, stating, "The government has convened an All Party leaders meeting at 11 am on May 8, 2025, at Committee Room: G-074, in the Parliament Library Building, Parliament Complex in New Delhi."
Earlier that day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with President Droupadi Murmu at Rashtrapati Bhavan to provide her with a formal briefing about the operation.
The precision strikes occurred in the early hours of Wednesday, lasting only 25 minutes. Between 1:05 a.m. and 1:30 a.m., 24 missiles were launched targeting nine terrorist facilities, including the headquarters of Lashkar-e-Taiba in Muridke and significant training camps in Bahawalpur, which have long been recognized as hubs for extremist activities.
India clarified that this military action was not intended to escalate tensions but was a measured and appropriate response to the terror attack that occurred on April 22 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, resulting in the deaths of 26 civilians, including a Nepali national.
"Our operations have been focused, measured, and non-escalatory. No military installations in Pakistan were targeted. India has shown significant restraint in choosing its targets and executing the operation," stated the government.
Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri emphasized that India's objective was to dismantle terrorist infrastructure while minimizing civilian casualties and avoiding a wider conflict.
"Operation Sindoor was a responsible and proportionate reaction to Pakistan's ongoing support for terrorism," he remarked, adding that Pakistan has continued its pattern of denial and deflection instead of addressing the perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack.
"This government has upheld its commitment — those responsible will face consequences," the statement reiterated, highlighting India's resolve to respond to any future cross-border terrorism.
Political leaders from various parties have voiced strong support for the Indian armed forces following the successful operation.
Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, commended the military's precision and bravery, posting on X, "Proud of our Armed Forces. Jai Hind!"
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge shared similar sentiments, stating, "India maintains a steadfast National Policy against all forms of terrorism originating from Pakistan and PoK. We take immense pride in our Armed Forces, who have targeted terror camps in these regions. We commend their unwavering determination and bravery."
Kharge emphasized that the Congress party has consistently supported the government since the April 22 terror attack.
"Since the day of the Pahalgam Terror Attack, the Indian National Congress has firmly stood with the Armed Forces and the Government to take decisive action against cross-border terrorism," he stated.
He concluded by calling for national unity, saying, "National unity and solidarity are crucial at this moment, and the Indian National Congress stands with our Armed Forces. Our leaders have historically shown the way, and national interest is paramount for us."
