Ongoing Search for Missing Indians in Iran

Tehran: The Indian government confirmed on Thursday that it is actively coordinating with Iranian officials to find three Indian citizens who have gone missing in Iran.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), the three individuals arrived in Iran recently and have since disappeared. MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, "We are in constant communication with Iranian authorities to locate them, ensure their safety, and facilitate their return. We are in daily contact and receiving positive cooperation from the Iranian side. Additionally, we are supporting the families of the missing individuals with all available resources."

The missing individuals, identified as Jaspal Singh, Hushanpreet Singh, and Amritpal Singh, are all from Punjab and were last heard from on May 1, shortly after their arrival in Tehran.

The Indian Embassy in Iran has reported that the families of the missing men have reached out, expressing concern over their relatives' disappearance. The Embassy has taken this matter seriously, urging Iranian authorities to expedite the search and ensure the safety of the missing citizens. They are also keeping the families informed about the ongoing efforts.

Reports indicate that a travel agent in Punjab had promised to facilitate their journey to Australia via a route through Dubai and Iran, assuring them of accommodation in Iran. However, it is alleged that the trio was kidnapped shortly after their arrival on May 1. The families have claimed that the kidnappers are demanding a ransom of Rs one crore, with calls being made from Pakistani phone numbers.

In light of these events, India has previously issued travel advisories for Iran, urging Indian nationals to exercise caution, maintain contact with the Indian Embassy in Tehran, and the Indian Consulates.
