Tensions Rise in Jaisalmer After Bomb-Like Object Found: Security Measures Intensified

Security Alert in Jaisalmer Following Discovery of Suspicious Object
In a concerning incident on Friday, a bomb-like device was unearthed in a residential neighborhood of Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, prompting an extensive security response.
The explosive was located in the Jogi Colony of Kishanghat around 10 a.m., leading to the immediate evacuation of the area by Army personnel. The device was safely disposed of by the Army team, averting a potential catastrophe.
The atmosphere in Jaisalmer remains charged, with police enforcing a city-wide lockdown. Heavily armed forces are on patrol, conducting thorough checks on all vehicles entering and leaving the city.
Access is granted only after meticulous document verification, and all unusual activities are under strict observation.
Due to heightened security concerns, blackouts were implemented across six districts on Thursday night, including Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Barmer, Bikaner, Sri Ganganagar, and Pali. Airports in these border regions have been completely closed, resulting in a deserted airspace as all regular flights have been redirected. The airports affected include Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Bikaner, and Kishangarh.
Rail services have also faced significant disruptions. In Jaisalmer, train number 12468 (Jaipur-Jaisalmer), which left on May 8, only reached Bikaner and was partially canceled between Bikaner and Jaisalmer. Likewise, train number 12467 (Jaisalmer-Jaipur), scheduled for May 9, is now operating from Bikaner instead of Jaisalmer, with partial cancellations on the Jaisalmer-Bikaner route.
In Barmer, four trains set for May 9 have been completely canceled, including train numbers 14895 (Bhagat Ki Kothi-Barmer), 14896 (Barmer-Bhagat Ki Kothi), 04880 (Munabao-Barmer), and 54881 (Barmer-Munabao). The state remains on high alert following two recent attempted attacks from Pakistan.
On the night of May 7-8, missiles targeted Indian airbases in Uttarlai, Nal, and Phalodi, but were intercepted by India’s advanced S-400 air defense system. A second attempt occurred around 9 p.m. on May 8, when swarm drones aimed at military installations in Jaisalmer and Pokaran, which were also neutralized before any damage could occur.
In light of these threats, the Rajasthan government has mandated the closure of schools and colleges in Jodhpur, Bikaner, Jaisalmer, Barmer, and Sri Ganganagar until further notice. Coaching centers in Sri Ganganagar have also been shut down.
Fireworks have been prohibited in Bikaner and Sri Ganganagar, while drone flights are banned in Kota until July 7 and are already restricted in Bikaner.
To enhance administrative preparedness, nine Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) officers have been assigned to critical border areas to aid in disaster response and maintain public order.
