Mushfiqur Rahim Shines as Bangladesh Dominates Sri Lanka in Test Match
Bangladesh's Strong Performance on Day 2
Mushfiqur Rahim remained not out at 141, contributing significantly to Bangladesh's total of 383 for four at lunch on the second day of their opening Test against Sri Lanka. He formed a crucial partnership of 74 runs with Litton Das, further solidifying their position.
During the morning session on Wednesday, the visitors added 91 runs, losing only their captain, Najmul Hossain Shanto, who had played a remarkable innings of 148.
Shanto and Mushfiqur's partnership was impressive, totaling 264 runs for the fourth wicket, just three runs shy of setting a new record for Bangladesh's fourth-wicket stands in Test cricket.
The partnership was finally broken by a spectacular catch from Angelo Mathews, who dived full length at mid-off to dismiss Shanto, who had played a patient innings filled with 15 boundaries and a six.
With the scoreboard moving steadily, Das took over from Shanto, scoring a brisk unbeaten 43, which helped maintain Bangladesh's advantageous position.
Sri Lanka had several missed opportunities against Das. He attempted a risky single after Mushfiqur nudged the ball into the covers, but the response was slow. Dhananjaya de Silva rushed from slip to field the ball but threw to the wrong end with both batsmen at the striker's end.
Pathum Nissanka also dropped a straightforward catch at short mid-wicket when Das was on 14, allowing the Bangladesh batter to respond with three consecutive boundaries.
This match in Galle marks the beginning of the 2025-2027 World Test Championship cycle, commencing shortly after South Africa claimed the title for the first time.
