Historic Rocket Launch in Kushinagar

A significant milestone was achieved in Kushinagar district, Uttar Pradesh, with the successful launch of a model rocket. This event marks the first instance of a payload being launched via rocket from the state, as confirmed by officials.

The Astronautical Society of India, in collaboration with the Indian National Space Promotion and Authorization Center (IN-SPACe) and the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), conducted the launch test on Saturday. The model rocket ascended to an altitude of 1.12 kilometers at 5:14 PM.

Abhishek Singh, a scientist from ISRO present at the launch site, stated, "The rocket was launched at 5:14:33 PM, reaching a height of 1.1 kilometers. Following this, a small satellite payload was deployed. As it descended five meters, its parachute activated, allowing the satellite to land 400 meters away. The 15-kilogram rocket also returned safely to the ground."

Vinod Kumar, the director of the Promotion Directorate at IN-SPACe, confirmed the success of the test. He mentioned, "This program aims to spark interest in space technology among children across the region and the entire country."

Kumar emphasized that this was the first successful satellite launch via rocket in Uttar Pradesh, showcasing the capabilities of IN-SPACe, an autonomous body operating under the Department of Space (DOS).
