Renewed Violence in Jammu and Kashmir

Jammu: The conflict reignited on Thursday as security forces engaged in gunfire with terrorists in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to officials, the latest round of firing began this morning in the Joffar area, following an initial encounter that commenced on Wednesday.

During the night, joint security teams intensified their cordon around the site to prevent any escape attempts by the terrorists under the cover of darkness.

Local sources reported that three armed individuals dressed in black entered a resident's home around 8 p.m. on Wednesday, departing shortly after 11:30 p.m. as security forces initiated their operation. This led to a gunfight in Joffar, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Ramnagar police station.

Officials stated, “As police and security personnel approached, they came under fire from the terrorists, resulting in the ongoing encounter.”

It is noteworthy that a similar encounter took place on March 23 in Sanyal village, located just 4 km from the International Border.

This earlier incident extended to Safiyan Jakhole village, resulting in the deaths of two terrorists and four police officers.

In response, joint forces expanded their 'seek and destroy' operations into the higher terrains of Kathua and Rajouri districts, where a brief exchange of gunfire was reported in the Billawar area.

Reports indicated that five terrorists had crossed into Indian territory from the International Border, with the same group involved in the confrontations in Sanyal and Safiyan Jakhole villages, where two terrorists were neutralized.

Recently, Union Home Minister Amit Shah convened a security review meeting in Srinagar, emphasizing the need to eliminate terrorism and restore peace in the region.
