India's External Affairs Minister Engages in Key Diplomatic Talks Amid Middle East Tensions

Nicosia, June 16: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has been actively involved in discussions with his counterparts from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Armenia, as tensions rise in the Middle East. These conversations highlight India's commitment to regional stability and diplomatic engagement.
During consecutive phone calls, Jaishankar addressed the rapidly changing circumstances and underscored the necessity for dialogue and collaboration.
In a post shared on X, he detailed his discussion with Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan, mentioning: "Spoke with FM @AraratMirzoyan of Armenia. Discussed ongoing developments in the region and our close cooperation." This reference to ongoing developments indicates a concern for regional security and the potential repercussions of escalating tensions in the Middle East.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to visit Armenia following the G7 Summit in Canada, further emphasizing India's diplomatic efforts.
Shortly after, Jaishankar connected with UAE Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan. He highlighted the importance of diplomacy in his X post: "Had a telecon with DPM & FM @ABZayed of UAE on the current situation in West Asia and the role of diplomacy. Agreed to remain in touch."
Earlier on Saturday, Jaishankar also spoke with Iran’s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi. The Indian Embassy in Iran shared on X: "External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar had a phone conversation with FM Seyed Abbas Araghchi this evening. EAM conveyed the deep concern of the international community at the turn of events. He urged avoidance of any escalatory steps and an early return to diplomacy."
The Ministry of External Affairs released a formal statement expressing apprehension regarding the escalating hostilities between Iran and Israel. Official Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal stated, “We are deeply concerned at the recent developments between Iran and Israel. We are closely monitoring the evolving situation, including reports related to attacks on nuclear sites.”
