Gorakhpur Set for Industrial Growth with ₹1,551 Crore Development Projects

Major Development Initiatives in Gorakhpur
The Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) is rapidly establishing itself as a pivotal industrial center in Uttar Pradesh, with a series of development projects totaling ₹1,551 crore set to be inaugurated soon. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath is anticipated to formally launch these initiatives shortly.
Among the key projects is a substantial investment of ₹760 crore near the Gorakhpur Link Expressway, which includes the foundation stone laying for a Skill Training Centre and a Common Facility Centre (CFC) associated with the Central Institute of Petrochemicals Engineering and Technology (CIPET) within the Plastic Park adjacent to the expressway.
The Plastic Park initiative, spearheaded by the Central Government’s Department of Chemicals and Petrochemicals, aims to boost India's participation in the global plastic market through cluster-based development. Ten such parks have been sanctioned nationwide, with Uttar Pradesh's inaugural Plastic Park being developed on 88 acres in Narkataha village, acquired by GIDA near the Gorakhpur Link Expressway. This project, valued at ₹69.58 crore, includes a 25% grant from the Central Government.
Out of the 92 plots designated for plastic manufacturing units within the park, nearly 60 have already been allocated, reflecting strong entrepreneurial interest. With several units already operational, this project has become one of India's most successful plastic parks.
Chief Minister Yogi is expected to inaugurate three operational units with a total investment of ₹120 crore. These include Technoplast Packaging Private Limited, which has invested ₹96 crore and created 250 jobs; Om Flax Industries Private Limited, with a ₹17 crore investment generating 50 jobs; and Gajanan Polyplast, which has invested ₹7 crore and created 25 jobs.
In Sector 27 of GIDA, land has been allocated to three notable private firms: APL Apollo Tubes Limited, Greentech Bharat Private Limited (SLMG Group), and Kapila Agro Industries. Collectively, these companies will invest ₹640 crore and are projected to create approximately 1,200 jobs (both direct and indirect). The Chief Minister will also lay the foundation stones for these facilities.
Additionally, CIPET plans to set up a Skill Training Centre and Common Facility Centre in the Plastic Park at a cost of ₹16 crore, with GIDA providing five acres of land at no cost. The foundation stone for this project is also set to be laid in the presence of the Chief Minister.
To promote environmentally sustainable industrial practices, a Common Effluent Treatment Plant (CETP) is being constructed in Adilapar. Spanning 11.15 acres and costing ₹93.52 crore, the CETP will address the treatment requirements of industrial units within the GIDA area, with its foundation stone also scheduled for laying during the event.
Moreover, development projects worth ₹281 crore, which include essential infrastructure improvements such as roads, drainage systems, culverts, street lighting, and electrification, are also ready for inauguration and foundation stone laying in the GIDA region.
The event will also feature the official distribution of allotment letters for the Kalesar Housing Scheme in Sector 11, developed at a cost of ₹400 crore. A total of 496 applications were received for 242 residential plots in this 110-acre housing project, which were allocated through an e-lottery system. This scheme has generated a profit of ₹48.27 crore for GIDA.
