Terrorism Suspect Detained in St. Petersburg

Moscow: On Thursday, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) announced the arrest of a 23-year-old woman in St. Petersburg, who is suspected of plotting a terrorist attack allegedly orchestrated by Ukrainian intelligence.

According to the FSB, they have successfully disrupted the activities of a Russian national born in 2002, who was reportedly involved in planning a terrorist act under the direction of Ukrainian special services.

The security agency revealed that the detained individual had established 'proactive contact' with a representative of the Ukrainian Special Services via messaging platforms such as WhatsApp and Telegram, which are recognized as extremist by Russian authorities.

The FSB indicated that the woman had aspirations to acquire citizenship in a European Union country and expressed her willingness to engage in 'sabotage and terrorist activities' as a means to leave Russia.

Additionally, the FSB reported that she attempted to ignite a railway facility and had inscribed pro-Ukrainian messages and slogans in various public locations throughout Moscow, following instructions from her 'curator.'

She traveled to St. Petersburg with the intent to surveil an employee of a defense enterprise and was allegedly in the process of planting an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in the individual's vehicle when she was apprehended.

Following her arrest, the Investigative Service of the University of the Federal Security Service of Russia (UFSB) for St. Petersburg initiated a criminal case against her under applicable sections of the Russian Criminal Code.
