Gambhir Dismisses Rumors of Conflict with Rohit Sharma

During the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, speculation arose regarding a supposed conflict between Indian captain Rohit Sharma and head coach Gautam Gambhir. This tension became particularly noticeable when Rohit was absent from the playing XI in the Sydney test without prior announcement. However, at the ABP India At 2047 Summit, Gambhir dismissed these rumors, emphasizing the mutual respect and professionalism they share. He stated,

“These claims are merely propagated by a handful of individuals running YouTube channels or so-called 'experts' seeking attention. We just won the Champions Trophy two months ago—imagine the questions you would have if we hadn’t!”

Gambhir expressed disbelief that such rumors continue to circulate despite their recent success in the 2025 Champions Trophy. He further remarked,

“Just two months ago, we celebrated a Champions Trophy victory together, and now you’re questioning my relationship with Rohit. I hold him in high regard as both a person and a cricketer. His contributions to Indian cricket are remarkable. My respect for him has been unwavering since he joined the team, and that will not change.”

Gambhir on His Evolving Relationship with Virat Kohli

Gautam Gambhir previously had a rocky relationship with Indian batting sensation Virat Kohli. While leading the Kolkata Knight Riders, he was involved in a heated exchange with Kohli, and even after Kohli had calmed down, they clashed again over Naveen-ul-Haq while Gambhir was mentoring the Lucknow Super Giants.

However, after Gambhir joined the Indian team, their relationship began to flourish, marked by light-hearted exchanges and camaraderie. When asked about his bond with Kohli, Gambhir responded,

“It’s just two Delhi boys having fun. If that’s an issue, I’ll ask the BCCI to stop sharing about it.”
