Historic Achievement for Joe Root

Veteran England batter Joe Root has made history by becoming the first player to score 1000 Test runs at the iconic Old Trafford cricket ground.


In addition to this remarkable feat, Root has also accumulated 2,166 runs at Lord's, making him the third England player to surpass 1000 Test runs at two different venues, following in the footsteps of Alastair Cook and Graham Gooch, who both achieved this at Lord's and The Oval.


Root reached this milestone during the fourth Test against India at Old Trafford on Friday, where he has recorded a total of 1041 runs in 12 matches, boasting an impressive average of 69.40. His achievements at this venue include eight fifties and one century, with a personal best score of 254.


Root Climbs the All-Time Test Run-Scorer Rankings

With this performance, Root has surpassed cricket legends Jacques Kallis and Rahul Dravid, positioning himself as the third-highest run-scorer in Test cricket history. After participating in 157 Tests, he has amassed 13,322 runs at an average of 51.04, including 37 centuries and 67 fifties across 286 innings.


His highest score stands at 262. He has now overtaken Kallis, who scored 13,289 runs in 166 matches with 45 centuries, and Dravid, who accumulated 13,288 runs in 164 matches with 36 centuries.


To move into second place, Root needs just 57 more runs to surpass Australian great Ricky Ponting, who has 13,378 runs in 168 Tests with 41 centuries. The record for the most runs in Test cricket is held by Indian legend Sachin Tendulkar, who scored 15,921 runs in 200 Tests, including 51 centuries.


Root's Performance in the Series Against India

In the ongoing Test series against India, Root ranks as the seventh-highest run-scorer, having accumulated 316 runs in four matches and seven innings, averaging 63.20. His contributions include one century and two fifties, with a top score of 104.


During the match, a significant partnership between Ollie Pope and Joe Root brought England close to matching India's first innings total, as the team ended the first session of day three of the fourth Test in Manchester with over 300 runs.


At the conclusion of the first session, England stood at 332/2, with Pope (70*) and Root (63*) not out, trailing by 26 runs. They began the session at 225/2, with Pope (20*) and Root (11*) unbeaten.
