Overview of New Metro Corridors

The Indian government has allocated approximately Rs 11,150 crore for the development of three new metro corridors in Delhi. These corridors will connect R K Ashram to Indraprastha, Aerocity to Terminal-1, and Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj, covering a total distance of just over 16 kilometers.

R K Ashram to Indraprastha Corridor Details

The R K Ashram to Indraprastha corridor, as proposed to the National Planning Group (NPG), will be the longest among the three. This underground corridor will feature nine stations, including Indraprastha, Bharat Mandapam, Baroda House, India Gate (C-Hexagon), the newly built Common Central Secretariat buildings on Kartavya Path, Central Secretariat, Yuge Yugeen Bharat Museum (near Rakabganj Gurudwara), Shivaji Stadium, and R K Ashram Marg.

A source mentioned, "This corridor will create a complete loop connecting the Green Line (Indralok-Indraprastha link) with the Blue Line and the Janakpuri West-R K Ashram Marg corridor, which will help alleviate congestion at Rajiv Chowk."

Officials highlighted that the India Gate station will offer a safer and more convenient route for visitors, reducing reliance on private vehicles. Currently, visitors must either walk or take an auto-rickshaw from the nearest metro station, Central Secretariat.

Additionally, this corridor will enhance access to ten major central government office buildings along Kartavya Path, with stations at the CCS buildings and Central Secretariat, allowing commuters to reach their offices efficiently.

Aerocity to Terminal-1 Corridor Specifications

The extension from Aerocity to Terminal-1, measuring 2.3 kilometers, will be entirely underground and will include one station at Terminal-1. This extension aims to improve airport connectivity for residents of Tughlakabad, Khanpur, Saket, Mehrauli, and Vasant Kunj, particularly benefiting those commuting from Faridabad via the Tughlakabad interchange.

Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj Corridor Overview

The Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj corridor, approximately 4 kilometers long, will feature three stations and will be an elevated corridor. It will traverse through Ali Village, Ali Vihar, and Madanpur Khadar, providing an interchange at Kalindi Kunj with the existing Magenta Line, thereby linking the violet and magenta corridors.
