Delhi-Dehradun Expressway Set for Completion: Anticipated Opening This Summer

Transformative Expressway Project

The Delhi-Dehradun Expressway is poised to be a significant development for the nation, particularly benefiting travelers heading to Dehradun and Saharanpur, as well as daily commuters from Delhi to the Uttar Pradesh border. Recent updates have shed light on its expected opening date and the remaining construction tasks.

According to the Ministry of Road Transport, the 212 km Greenfield Expressway is currently under development. This expressway will connect Akshardham in Delhi to Dehradun, passing through Khekra, Shamli, and Saharanpur. The initial 31.6 km stretch from Akshardham to the Khekra crossing at the Eastern Peripheral Expressway has been completed, and test drives have been conducted by the NHAI in preparation for public access.

Once fully operational, the journey between Delhi and the Uttar Pradesh border will be significantly expedited, taking just 15 minutes. The first segment of the elevated road, spanning 18 km from Akshardham, will facilitate travel to the Loni Border, with an additional 13 km of ground-level roadway constructed alongside. A service road with six lanes is also being developed adjacent to the expressway, enhancing accessibility for local residents.

Mohammed Saifi, the Regional Officer for NHAI's Delhi Region, confirmed that the elevated section leading to the UP border is complete. Testing has concluded, and the final report is expected within the next two weeks. The expressway is projected to open by late June or early July.
