Biren Singh and Sanajaoba Return from Meeting with Amit Shah on Manipur Situation

Return to Imphal After Key Discussions
Imphal, June 11: N Biren Singh, the former Chief Minister of Manipur, along with Rajya Sabha MP Leisemba Sanajaoba, arrived back in Imphal on Wednesday following their meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi. The purpose of their visit was to update the Centre on the current situation in Manipur.
At a press conference held at Imphal International Airport, Singh highlighted the Centre's strong commitment to maintaining the territorial integrity of Manipur, assuring that it will not be compromised under any circumstances.
“The Union Home Minister reiterated that no actions will be taken that could negatively impact the indigenous communities of our state,” Singh stated to the media.
During their discussions, Singh and Sanajaoba addressed the long-standing request for establishing a popular government in Manipur. Singh mentioned that the Home Minister expressed support for forming a government but emphasized the need to first assess the situation and continue dialogues.
Singh further noted that the Union Home Minister is treating the Manipur crisis with utmost seriousness. Important topics included the welfare of internally displaced persons (IDPs) and issues surrounding free movement.
“On our first day in Delhi, June 9, we convened a meeting from approximately 10:30 pm until midnight, where we briefed the Centre on the conditions of IDPs, the ongoing crisis, and concerns related to free movement,” Singh elaborated.
He also mentioned that efforts are being made to restore lasting peace in the region. “The Home Minister has initiated one-on-one meetings with leaders from various communities as part of the strategy to address the crisis,” he added.
