India's Strategy for the Upcoming Test: Should They Replace Karun Nair with Sai Sudharsan?

India's Preparations for the 4th Test Against England
As Team India gears up for the pivotal fourth Test against England in Manchester, set to commence on July 23, former Indian cricketer Deep Dasgupta has shared insights on potential changes the team might consider for the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.
Following a narrow 22-run defeat at Lord's, which allowed England to take a 2-1 lead in the series, scrutiny has intensified regarding Karun Nair's performance. Nair, who made a long-awaited return to the Test squad after an eight-year absence, has faced criticism for his lack of substantial runs.
Deep Dasgupta suggested, “In the Playing XI, ideally, you want to limit changes to just one. If there is to be a change, it should be replacing Karun Nair with Sai Sudharsan. Nair has had opportunities but hasn't converted them into significant scores. He also appears uncomfortable at the crease.”
He further emphasized, “Sai Sudharsan is a young talent. If the goal is to invest in the current England series, it makes sense to back a younger player. Nair has had starts in both Tests but hasn't looked convincing. With only two Tests remaining, it might be wise to invest in Sudharsan, especially since opportunities to play in England are rare.”
Nair's return to the Test arena has been somewhat unnoticed. After an eight-year gap, he scored 0 and 20 in his first Test back at Leeds, followed by 31 and 26 at Edgbaston, and 40 and 14 at Lord's, totaling 131 runs in the series. While these figures indicate he has had some starts, they lack the impact needed.
Conversely, Sai Sudharsan, who debuted at Leeds, faced challenges, scoring a duck in his first innings and 30 in the second, and has not been included in the playing XI since then.
With only two Tests left in the series, the management faces a critical decision: should they prioritize experience or take a chance on youth? As Dasgupta pointed out, chances to play a series in England are infrequent, making this an opportune moment to support a promising young player.
