Awami League Condemns Targeted Killings of Party Members in Bangladesh

Awami League's Strong Condemnation

Dhaka, June 10: The Awami League has expressed strong condemnation regarding the targeted killings of its activists occurring in various prisons throughout Bangladesh under the interim government led by Muhammad Yunus.

The party's statement highlighted a troubling pattern of mysterious deaths and severe repression faced by Awami League members in prisons, which has raised significant alarm. Analysts and human rights organizations believe these incidents are not random but rather part of a systematic operation orchestrated by a shadow authority aligned with Yunus, aimed at dismantling pro-liberation politics through intimidation and violence.

According to the Awami League, reports from witnesses and leaked documents indicate that medical neglect and denial of necessary care have led to intentional deaths, including forced poisonings and induced cardiac arrests. The party claims that activists have been subjected to solitary confinement and physical abuse disguised as administrative procedures.

"These alarming developments suggest a covert initiative to undermine the grassroots support of the party that played a pivotal role in the nation's liberation. This silent purge appears to be a fundamental aspect of the 'Yunus Doctrine,' which presents an anti-democratic agenda under the guise of 'neutral governance' and 'technocratic reform,'" the statement elaborated.

Additionally, the Awami League reported another execution of its leader, Ali Azgar, on Monday, describing it as a stark illustration of the brutality of the Yunus administration. The party asserted that prisons have transformed into execution sites where Awami League leaders are systematically eliminated.

Last month, the Awami League disclosed that at least 21 of its members have died in custody since Yunus assumed power, with these deaths occurring in environments that should be secure, thus violating both national laws and international human rights standards.

The party has called for immediate national action and judicial inquiries into all prison fatalities, demanding independent investigation teams under the Prime Minister's Office and the presence of international human rights observers to oversee detentions and identify Yunus-affiliated collaborators within state institutions.

The Awami League believes that the primary objective of the Yunus administration is to instill fear to thwart any electoral opposition and facilitate the resurgence of anti-liberation, extremist factions.

"This situation transcends mere political oppression; it is an attack on the essence of the Liberation War. In these challenging times, the people of Bangladesh look to one leader for security — Sheikh Hasina. As the daughter of the Father of the Nation, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, she possesses the moral and political authority to dismantle these conspiracies and deliver justice," the statement concluded.

The Awami League emphasized that former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has consistently resisted foreign pressures, extremist threats, and internal betrayals. Under her leadership, war criminals have faced justice, terror networks have been dismantled, and significant development has been achieved alongside political stability.

"The nation once again turns to Sheikh Hasina for justice — to ensure that no Awami League member is silenced through violence and that those responsible for these atrocious acts are held accountable. Only under her leadership can these hidden perpetrators be brought to light," the party asserted.
