Afghanistan's Squad for Asia Cup 2025
On Sunday, Afghanistan revealed a 17-member team for the upcoming Asia Cup, which is set to take place from September 9 to 28 in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. The tournament will kick off with Afghanistan facing Hong Kong on September 9. This event, featuring eight teams, will be conducted in T20I format and serves as crucial preparation for the teams ahead of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup scheduled for next year in India and Sri Lanka.
Rashid Khan, a seasoned spinner, will lead the team. Key players such as Azmatullah Omarzai, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Fazalhaq Farooqi, and Mohammad Nabi, who were instrumental in Afghanistan's progression to the knockout stage of last year's ICC Men's T20 World Cup, are also part of the squad.
Prior to the Asia Cup, Afghanistan will compete against the UAE and Pakistan in a T20I Tri-Nation Series starting this Friday in Sharjah, which will include most of the 22-member preliminary squad announced by the Afghanistan Cricket Board earlier this month.
The tournament's group stage consists of India, Pakistan, UAE, and Oman in Group A, while Group B includes Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Hong Kong.
