Arrest of AAP Legislator

The Vigilance Bureau of Punjab apprehended Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Raman Arora, aged 54, on Friday in Jalandhar Central. His arrest is connected to a corruption investigation involving former Assistant Town Planner Sukhdav Vashisht, who was detained the previous week. AAP spokesperson Neel Garg confirmed that the vigilance team conducted a raid at Arora's residence. The specifics of what was discovered during the raid remain unclear, which led to his arrest in the corruption case.

Details of the Allegations

Arora is accused of utilizing Vashisht to issue fake notices and extort money from targeted individuals. Following multiple complaints against him, the Vigilance Bureau executed a search at his home on Friday morning. While officials from the bureau remained tight-lipped, AAP shared the incident on social media, stating: "(Bhagwant) Mann's government is taking significant action against corruption. No one is above the law - not even within AAP. The vigilance team raided MLA Raman Arora over fake municipal notices, extortion, and digital scams. True accountability looks like this."

Government's Stance on Corruption

On May 12, the Punjab government withdrew 14 police personnel assigned to Arora's security, which preceded the action against him. In response to the arrest, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann emphasized the state's commitment to a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption. He remarked, "This is not a fight against an individual but against a corrupt system, for which the government has adopted a clear policy. Whether a friend or foe, no one will be spared. Any form of corruption will not be tolerated, and legal action will be taken against such leaders and officials."
